The Rotary Club of Lake Placid is sponsoring a lithium-ion (Li-on) battery recycling event on May 13th. Make this a part of your spring cleaning!

Time: May 13, 2023, 9am – 3pm

Location: North Elba Town Transfer Station, 74 Recycle Circle Lane, Lake Placid

The use of lithium-ion batteries is increasing, not only as the electric vehicle industry is scaling, but also with the increasing use of these batteries in rechargeable devices such as cell phones, laptops, power tools, and more – see the image for more examples and where to find these items in your home.

These rechargeable batteries contain minerals in limited supply, such as nickel, lithium and cobalt. Today, less than 5% of consumer lithium-ion batteries are recycled and many have ended up in landfills, causing fires and harmful environmental impacts.

There is no need to remove the battery from a device in advance - just bring the entire product to be recycled!
