Tupper Lake resident Brian Merriam shared his experiences helping Rotarians in Guatemala distribute Lions-furnished eyeglasses to the poor. Merriam described how he transported thousands of pairs of glasses into Guatemala and worked at temporary eye clinics in remote villages.  He highlighted the significant impact these glasses had on the lives of impoverished Guatemalans, many of whom suffer from severe vision problems and early cataracts due to poor nutrition, trauma, and constant exposure to the sun. Merriam explained that regaining eyesight allowed individuals to become assets to their families again, a crucial factor in a poor country. He expressed how remarkably rewarding it was to witness the excitement and appreciation of people who could see clearly again after years of vision loss. Merriam concluded by thanking the Lions Club for their vital eyeglass collection program, emphasizing its impressive impact on people's lives globally.
