Today we welcomed Cory Hurwitch, Manager of the Adirondack Regional Airport (KSLK). Cory provided a detailed overview of the operations, challenges, and future plans for a regional airport. He discussed the airport's current status as an Essential Air Service (EAS) airport, highlighting the competitive bidding process for a new subsidized air carrier, with the town board recommending SkyWest Airlines over the incumbent Cape Air to switch service from Boston to Detroit. A significant portion of the presentation addressed the data analysis and rationale for selecting Detroit, emphasizing the demand for larger aircraft and better national connectivity. Cory also outlined major capital projects underway, including a multi-million-dollar environmental investigation into Pfas contamination from firefighting foam and a terminal revitalization project aimed at improving accessibility and infrastructure.
